Connection with the moon
"Wadi Rum" or the so-called "Valley of the Moon", due to the similarity of its terrain with the topography of the moon, so its surface represents one of the most demonstrated by the complex geological and climatic processes on the face of the earth over millions of years, as the rain, earthquakes and the strength of the winds that pass through the sandstone layers, all of them made marks through a series of cracks that later turned into the passages of what is known today as "Wadi Rum".
Wadi Rum, a tourist valley located in southern Jordan, 70 km north of the coastal city of Aqaba, is characterized by the presence of tall mountains in it, which give an aesthetic color to a red-purple color with a faint reflection of the sunlight at the moment of its setting from behind those mountains, which are made of sandy rock. Which took its distinctive shape due to the natural factors of carving and erosion in ancient times.
Unique site
The huge, compact and coordinated heads of rocks rising from the desert land by (1750) meters constitute a natural challenge for professional mountain climbers, while in the "Wadi Rum" area, tourist camps are spread that replace hotels because the area represents a natural reserve in which no hotels are allowed.
According to the researchers' assertions, in the late Ice Age (10,000 years ago) field research in the Wadi Rum area showed the existence of population centers, as the area was dense with trees and received large amounts of rain, and its appearance during that period was very far from its current desert nature, as a result of the presence of quantities. There was ample groundwater in the area at that time.
Engraved Civilizations
While wandering among the mountains of Wadi Rum, you find more than 40,000 drawings and engravings on rocks dating back to the year (12000 BC). These drawings and engravings are widespread in Wadi Rum, making it one of the richest groups of rock art in the world. These inscriptions are some of man’s early attempts to express himself through tangible forms. As for the writings, they are carved in different languages, as if they chronicle the civilizations that made Wadi Rum their home, such as Thamud, the Nabateans, and the Arabs.
